Arizona has the highest risk of skin cancer in the United States. Arizona is second only
to Australia for numbers of diagnosed skin cancer in the world. One out of 5 Americans will
develop a skin cancer in their lifetime.

This is why it is so important for residents of Arizona to know how to protect themselves from the harmful effects of the sun. Dr. Romine is committed to National programs, such as SunWise to
promote education regarding the use of sunscreen and protective clothing, thereby decreasing
risk of sun induced illness.

Tips on Choosing a Sunblock

1. Ingredients to look for: Avobenzone (Parsol 1789) - Broadest spectrum ingredient blocking
UVA (tanning) and UVB (burning) rays from the sun.

2. Zinc Oxide and Tititanium Dioxide-Both are chemical free sunblock ingredients for sensitive skin.

3. The higher the SPF, the more ingredients are added, with the added risk of irritation.

4. SPF of 30 for daily use.

5. Must reapply sunblocks every 2 hours or more frequently if towel drying.
