Did you know that 85% (54.4 Million) women have cellulite? Cellulite is often unrelated to weight and occurs in women of all body-types, sizes, and ethnicities. The formation of cellulite is caused by fibrous septae bands that connect the dermis to the underlying tissue. As the bands contract and stiffen, they pull down on the dermis creating dimples.
Cellfina™ is a minimally invasive therapy that is clinically proven to treat the primary structural cause of cellulite in one treatment
. Cellfina™ is intended for long-term improvement in the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thighs of women and currently has a 96% patient satisfaction rate at two years post-treatment. The FDA is just releasing data on efficacy up to three years.
Treatment with Cellfina™ begins with Dr. Romine marking the cellulite dimples with a marker. Then, after the treatment areas have been sterilized, a vacuum hand-piece is placed around the dimple and the skin is lifted up into the hand-piece. Through a small opening in the hand-piece, a needle is inserted into the skin delivering local anesthesia to the treatment area.
Once the treatment area has been anesthetized, a small, needle-sized blade is inserted into the vacuum hand-piece. This blade begins to rotate once underneath the skin and cuts the fibrous septae bands, releasing the tension and improving the appearance of the dimple. This is repeated until all marked areas have been treated.
What Does Cellfina™ Feel Like?
The most uncomfortable part of the procedure is the numbing process, however, most patients note minimal pain (1 out of 10) if any. Due to the use of a vacuum throughout the treatment, the most common sensation felt is pressure.
What Are the Common Side Effects with Cellfina™?
The most common side effects are bruising, soreness and tenderness. After three days, study patients rated their pain as minimal (2.7 on a scale of 0 to 10; 0=no pain, 10=extreme pain) and 82% felt pain only to the touch. More than 90% of patients had no bruising after four weeks.
How Many Treatments with Cellfina™ Will I Need?
In the majority of cases, you will need only one treatment with Cellfina™. This treatment is the only FDA-cleared minimally invasive procedure clinically proven to improve the appearance of cellulite for at least two years.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
The typical length is one 45-minute treatment. This does not include taking photographs before and after your treatment.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
For a 24-hour period after treatment, you can expect to drain fluid injected during your treatment. It is expected that you wear compressive garments for up to 2 weeks after treatment.
When Can I Expect To See Results?
Results can be seen as soon as three days after treatment.
Do I Need To Do Anything Prior to Treatment?
You will need to bring a compressive garment (i.e. Spanx – longest available) with you on the day of treatment. You may also be prescribed Arnica to reduce bruising. It is advised that you stop any blood thinners two weeks prior to your treatment and cease alcohol consumption 48 hours prior. If a doctor has prescribed you a blood thinner, speak with them prior to stopping the medication.
